             Centre  for   Forestry  Research  &   Human  Resource Development, Chhindwara is  an organisation  under  Tropical Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur  of  Indian Council  of  Forestry Research & Education, Ministry of Environment & Forests, New Delhi. It came  into existance on 30th March 1995. The Centre is located at Poama village near Kundalikala in Chhindwara District.  It   is   located  in  a    picturesque   location.  The   centre  has  been   declared  as  a   satellite

centre of Tropical Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur  from 3rd January 1996, and it covers the states Madhya Pradesh Maharshtra and  Orissa  with an  aim   to  develop  human resources of tribal population in thrust areas of Forestry Research.

Objectives of CFRHRD :-

Activities :-

A. Human Resource Development

       Centre for Forestry Research & Human Resource Development organises two courses viz., Junior Certificate Course and Senior Certificate Course to develop the human resource. The main  objectives of the courses are :

for_res.jpg (43058 bytes) The duration of Junior Certificate Course is 4       months  for training Nursery & Plantation Men. The  intake  is 10 trainess per batch. Minimum  Educational Qualification for the entrants is pass  in VIII standard, and he/she should be below poverty line of living standard.

 For senior Certificate course the duration is 8  months for training nursery & plantation men and technical assistants, and the intake is 10 trainees per batch. The candidates should have

passed 10+2 with science as elective. So far     a total of 45 persons have been trained under Junior Certificate Course and 9 persons under Senior Certificate Course.

 B. Research

        The following research activities were taken up by the centre:

  1. Studies on the feasibility of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants as intercrop  in natural forests and plantation and phyto-chemical investigation.

  2. Identification of insect pests of the "Emblica, Gmelina, Terminalia" in nurseries, plantations & natural forest   and to investigate their control measures.

  3. Structure and function of tropical dry deciduous forests as per the degradation status with emphasis on forest management and regeneration.

  4. Standardisation of Nursery techniques and propagation methods of Buchanania lanzen.

 C. Extension

  1. Plantation activities : Under NOVOBORD, UNDP, NABARD etc., projects of various plantation activities are taken up in the farmers'  fields  using  different  agro-forestry      models.

  2. Training : From time to  time, the  centre  organises  training  programs   for  farmers,     NGO's, SFD personnel in various areas of forestry.

  3. Joint Forest Management : The centre is also involved in various JFM activities  like micro planning, village resource management etc., for  sustainable  management  of our forest resources.
