The Rural regions frequently confront significant sanitation challenges, particularly in institutional toilets, owing to a scarcity of sanitation personnel. Conventional cleaning practices prove inadequate, compromising toilet functionality and usability. Furthermore, under utilization results in maintenance and damage concerns. In response, the District Administration has launched the pioneering “Swachhata Saathi Wash On Wheels” initiative aimed at bridging these gaps and enhancing overall sanitation standards

Rural areas often struggle with inadequate cleanliness in institutional toilets due to a shortage of sanitation workers. Traditional cleaning methods are ineffective, impacting toilet usability. Under utilization leads to maintenance and damage issues. To address these challenges, the district administration has introduced the innovative ‘Swachhata Saathi Wash On Wheels’ initiative.

Under the Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan, a step-by-step action plan was prepared to start the Swachhata Sathi Wash On Wheels program.

  1. In this, first of all, 01 cluster was formed from 03 gram panchayats in each of the 11 panchayat of the district.
  2. Swachhata Sathi was identified for the selected cluster, and they were provided with modern equipment and personal safety kits.
  3. In which along with electric and battery operated washer machine, personal safety kit (helmet, glasses, mask, gloves, PPE kit, gumboots) cleanliness kit (toilet cleaner, file, brush, broom, wiper, mug, bucket, etc. are included as per convenience.
  4. In the said program, Swachhata Saathi will go to cluster panchayats through vehicle and clean all institutional toilets including schools, Anganwadi, hostels, community health centers and community cleanliness parishes with battery operated washer machine. Swachhata Maathi will go to the said institutions on the basis of demand and clean the toilets 4 times every month at the prescribed fee.
  5. To make the above program legal, a model contract sheet was prepared at the district level, after which the said contract was signed jointly by Swachhata Saathi, Sarpanch, School Principal in 03 Janpad Panchayats.
  6. In the Swachhata Saathi Wash On Wheels program, facility fee has been proposed by the cluster headquarters for 05 km and Rs. 200 per toilet unit cleaning fee has been proposed by the cluster If the distance is more than 5 km from the headquarters, a cleaning fee of Rs. 250 per toilet unit has been proposed.
  7. The said innovation will provide employment to the sanitation workers and will also generate an estimated monthly income of about Rs. 20,000/- (twenty thousand).
