The Collector play a pivotal role in the District administration. Collector in the Cadre of I.A.S who heads the District. He acts as the District Magistrate for maintaining Law and Order in his jurisdiction. He deals mainly with planning and development, law and order, scheduled areas/agency areas, general elections, arms licensing etc.
The Additional Collector who also belongs to the I.A.S Cadre & S.A.S Cadre runs the Revenue administration under various enactments in the District. He is also designated as Additional District Magistrate. He mainly deals with civil supplies, land matters, mines and minerals, village officers etc.
The Joint Collector who is a S.A.S cadre Special Grade Deputy Collector looks after various developmental activities pertaining to various departments. The Major departments looked after by Joint Collector are District Medical and Health Department, Social Welfare Department, BC Welfare, BC Corporation, Disable Welfare, Housing and Other Departments.
Revenue functions involve maintenance of land records, conduct of revenue cases, carrying out of demarcation and mutations, settlement operations and functioning as custodian of public land. Sub Divisional Magistrates are designated as Assistant Collectors and Revenue Assistants and are primarily responsible for day to day revenue work. The subordinate revenue staff consisting of Girdavars, Kanungos and Patwaries are supervised by Tehsildars who are involved in field level revenue activities and mutations. They are also empowered to issue various kinds of statutory certificates including SC/ST & OBC, Domicile, Nationality etc. Registration of Property documents etc.
The Tehsildar is a State Government’s Key Position. He has elaborate duties and vast powers to maintain all land and revenue records of his Tehsil. The Land Revenue is collected by his Staff i.e RI ( Revenue Inspector) and Patwari. All land acquisition and Property acquisition cases are prepared by his office. Tehsildar is first to handle and start the immediate relief operations in case of any natural calamity i.e floods to fire to Scarcity or else.All loss assessment of crops due to any reasons and fixing its compensation is managed by Tehsildar. All Weather reports – Rainfall, Temperature etc re maintained by Tehsil Office.He is the in-charge of all Government Lands.Any new Project is based on the availability of Government lands i.e College,Hospital or so on. Tehsildar has many tightly defined Magisterial Powers also to exercise public unrest.
